Building & Housing Department

The purpose of the Building and Housing Department is to ensure the safety, security and proper upkeep of residential and commercial properties in South Euclid. As a state certified building department, we are tasked with enforcing both state building codes and local ordinances.

This is accomplished through the systematic inspection of properties, the enforcement of the Ohio Building Code and local ordinances related to property maintenance.  Owner-occupied homes are inspected through the city’s regular door-to-door exterior maintenance inspection program.   Rental properties are required to be registered annually and inspected every three years both inside and out.  In addition, the department follows up on all complaints, requires registration and inspection of all vacant properties, commercial buildings, and day care operations, and monitors and inspects all new construction projects in the city

Building Department Hours of Operation:  Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (customer service windows close at 3:30 p.m.)

Hotline for reporting vacant homes and suspected rental properties:  216-691-4241
